Final Fantasy Fan Shows Off Collection of Nintendo Games

The Final Fantasy franchise has a storied history with Nintendo spanning nearly 40 years, and a dedicated fan of the series reveals an impressive collection of Final Fantasy games available across multiple Nintendo consoles. The lineup has been revealed a few months before the Nintendo Switch will gain another major Final Fantasy title, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.

Reddit user u/PsimplePsychology shows off a collection of Final Fantasy games from the Game Boy Advance all the way to Nintendo’s latest system, the Switch. The first game in the collection is Final Fantasy 1 & 2: Dawn of Souls, a Game Boy Advance compilation of the first two Final Fantasy titles. Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS received the first six Final Fantasy games as Nintendo-exclusive remakes. These games would eventually come to PC and mobile platforms with major enhancements in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series. However, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is not currently available on the Switch despite fans clamoring for the titles.

u/PsimplePsychology’s collection includes physical copies of all numbered Final Fantasy games on Switch, from Final Fantasy 7 to Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age. Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 8 Remastered are available digitally on Switch, but the games were also released in a physical “Twin Pack” by online retailers such as Play-Asia. Additionally, Final Fantasy 9 is another title that received a physical release for Switch, and the game is present in the collection alongside Final Fantasy 10/10-2 HD Remaster. Final Fantasy 12: Revenant Wings, the Nintendo DS sequel to Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, rounds out the Nintendo collection of Final Fantasy games.

Many Final Fantasy titles are available on Nintendo platforms as u/PsimplePsychology pointed out. However, the user hopes to see the Final Fantasy 13 series join the Nintendo collection someday. Currently, all three Final Fantasy 13 games are available through backwards compatibility on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Console players are unable to play Final Fantasy 13 on the latest hardware from Nintendo and PlayStation.

Final Fantasy shares a rich history with PlayStation and Nintendo, and u/PsimplePsychology’s collection is just one example of the series branching out to different platforms. Hopefully, Square Enix will continue to invest in the Final Fantasy franchise and finally bring Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster and the Final Fantasy 13 series to Switch.

Fortunately, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is coming to Switch this December to bolster Nintendo’s lineup of Final Fantasy games. The new Final Fantasy 7 title should prove to be a worthy addition to this fan’s collection.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion launches December 13 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
