BELLVILLE − The 172nd Bellville Street Fair got underway Wednesday and continues through Sunday with food, art, games, rides, live music and more.
Bellville local Tony Stevens was operating his Balloon Bust and Duck pond vendor Thursday.
“I took over when I was 25,” Stevens said. “I’m a local. Been here my whole life. These vendors have been in my family through third and fourth generations. Passed down from my great-great grandparents and uncles. It’s always a good event. People here are always nice.”
Syvia Stevens Sand Art vendor was a hit with young kids, where they had the chance to participate in arts and crafts.
“This is something for the kids,” said Stevens, who has run the art stand for 32-33 years. “They put sand in the bottles and they can create their own colors.”
James Weckbacher was drawing caricatures of Street Fair visitors.
“I’ve had this vendor here at the fair for eight years,” Weckbacher said. “I usually go to 30-40 festivals per year. I can draw a face anywhere between three and five minutes.”
Shawn Rollins’ Water Gun Fun was another popular stop.
“It’s been in the family for 50 years,” he said.
There were plenty of food options as well, such as fried veggies, steak sandwiches, deep fried pickles, onion rings, deep fried Oreos, deep-fried candy bars, roasted almonds and pecans, funnel cakes, soft pretzels, Willard’s French fries, Italian sausages, Philly cheesesteaks, homemade Stromboli, cotton candy, candy apples, lemonade, gyros, French waffles and more.
A standout was the Cajun cooking Louisiana Grill, which had a southern style and Cajun inspired menu that included bourbon chicken and rice, a bourbon chicken sandwich, pinto beans, steamed rice and more.
“It’s been a good turnout. Were very blessed,” said Melissa Stromberg, who said this is the fourth year she’s attended the fair with her food offerings.
For wings lovers, then there was no better choice than Tall Timber Inn Jumbo Wings. Brothers Dwayne and Rod Smith have been cooking chicken wings for 18 years and have been a part of the Bellville Street Fair for eight-10 years.
“We cook about 4,000-5,000 wings every year for the fair. We also do private parties,” said the Smith brothers. “We do dry rub wings. Regular and hot. People love the dry rub. We do the jumbo wings; not the small ones.”
People also had the chance to pet and observe animals like chickens, doe rabbits, buck rabbits, ducks, turkeys and goats.
The Bellville Street Fair will continue to run through the weekend.
